Chantelle’s feeling good in the sands of the Sahara

Chantelle Hanwell has trekked more than 60 miles through the sands of the Sahara to help raise awareness of the need for young people to be on the lookout for breast cancer and to have the confidence to visit their GP if things don’t feel right.

She was fundraising for the Coppafeel organisation, which is on a mission to stamp out late diagnosis of breast cancer. She ‘s been supported with a £500 donation from the Freemasons of Brigg-based Glanford Vale Lodge where her dad Paul is a member.

Chantelle said: “Trekking for 100km was challenging, extraordinary, and life-changing – all in the name of checking chests! Along with Coppafeel patron and actress Gi Fletcher and some other famous faces, I spent five days in the Sahara Desert in a bid to raise funds towards CoppaFeel’s life-saving mission. Donations like the one from the Glanford Vale Freemasons and all the other Freemasons who made private donations through my JustGiving page not only supported my fundraising but most importantly CoppaFeel! I  am humbled by their generosity.

“Coppafeel is on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests, and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn’t feel normal.”

The £500 given to Chantelle has come from Lincolnshire Freemasons’ New Provincial Benevolent Fund, which gives all of its 76 Lodges money to pass on to a good cause chosen by its members. Next year each Lodge will be given £1,000 to donate as members please to one or two organisations, which means £76,000 will be shared between more than 150 good causes throughout the historic county of Lincolnshire, from Barton on the banks of The Humber in the north to Deeping, near The Wash in the South.
