Look beyond the crazy hats worn and the unlikely fines paid by the Brayford Corks Freemasons and you’ll find the same ingredients as you’d expect from any meeting – fun, friendliness, and a real desire to support other people.
This time the group raised – in just one evening – £1,800 to support children with severe handicaps; one in Lincoln and another in Grimsby.
The Lincoln one is Theo, who’s shortly going to celebrate his seventh birthday, an event to which the Corks are invited.
Ye Antient Order of Noble Corks (often called “The Cork”) is an informal ’fun’ degree allied to Freemasonry with a focus on fundraising primarily for children.
Originating from Scotland and based on a satire of Noah and the Great Flood, it features a nautical theme and is known for its compulsory, often silly, hats.
