Guides in Barton are geared up to take part in next month’s International Poacher scout and guide jamboree at the Lincolnshire Showground thanks to the town’s Freemasons.
Barton’s 1st Girl Guide Group leader Laura Hewitt stepped in with a cry for help to replace damaged equipment, without which they wouldn’t have been able to go.
Geoff Garrard-Hughes, Secretary of the Lodge of Established Order, said: “I approached all four Lodges in Barton – The Lodge of Established Order, St Matthew Lodge, St Matthew Chapter, and St Matthew Mark Lodge – and between us we gave them £600. That allowed them to buy an additional tent, trolley, tables, benches, and kitchen equipment including a gas fridge.
”We are really pleased to have been able to help the Guides to take part in this international event happening on our doorstep.”
The Poacher International Jamboree has been running since 1977, and will be attended this year by more than 5,500 Scouts and Guides aged between 10 and 17 from all over the globe.
