The Lincolnshire Freemasons’ parkrun ‘Steps for the Mind’ team stepped out at Boston today, January 24th, with the largest contingent yet – 15 runners including first-timer Jez Hyland.
Jez, in our main picture above at the end of his non-stop run, was was hugely supportive of the initiative to get people out in the fresh air with the opportunity to share talk in a supportive and morale-boosting way. He writes: “What a fantastic morning of fitness, well-being and fellowship at Boston Park Run this morning. Thanks a million to Chris Jones and David Freeman for all their work in setting up the Freemasons ‘Run, Walk and Talk’ events throughout Lincolnshire.
“No matter what your goal, you can achieve it gradually with this initiative. Having set my goal of jogging and seeing how many times I had to stop, I was on cloud nine at the finish, having not walked once – although my calves are now telling me that I should have taken a few breaks ! The chats, company and a few laughs were a bonus.
“It was a shame I had to then go and walk my dog and couldn’t join the others for a cuppa and a bacon roll. There’s always a next time. In addition, a big plus this morning was we met a few of the main organisers who are great contacts for us when we develop our commitment under our Community Engagement strategy and support Parkruns throughout the county with volunteers as well as participants.
“Thanks also to the other Lincolnshire Freemasons who made the effort to join in this morning Rob Wright, Tim White, Keith Edward, Phil Allsworth, Aidan Harrison, Charlie King as well as the two leaders Chris and David.”
Provincial lead on Steps for the Mind is David Freeman from Olive Union and the Free Wheelers Lodges. He said: “Whether you run, crawl or walk – as long as we talk, you’ll be part of something special. Parkrun is about getting outdoors, meeting others, and taking those positive steps for body and mind — at your own pace.
“And if running or walking isn’t for you, there are plenty of volunteer roles available on the morning — cheering, timekeeping, marshalling, or scanning. Every role matters, and every smile makes a difference. Let’s show how Freemasonry in Lincolnshire supports friendship, community, and mental health.”
