Scunthorpe Freemason Rob Lang is the second winner of Lincolnshire’s Excellence in Care Award, as recognition of the pro bono work he started years ago in supporting others going through difficult times.
In presenting the award, the Province’s senior Freemason Dave Wheeler said degree-qualified psychotherapist Rob, a member of St Lawrence Lodge, had been made an Honorary Member of 42 Commando because of his work in supporting about 150 serving and former Royal Marines suffering PTSD; had started and helped to sustain self-help groups for addicts in Bridlington, Beverley, and Hornsea which have been running for almost 20 years; and every winter supported NHS staff who needed to ‘vent their anguish’, with this final group involving more than 120 people last winter alone.
Rob, who has been a Freemason only since January 2022, is Almoner in St Lawrence Lodge and the Chapter of St John. He was the catalyst to create the regular coffee mornings at Scunthorpe, which are regularly attended by between 40 and 50 people and funded by the Province. The coffee morning model has been adopted in other areas of the Province. The success of the coffee mornings is indicated by the strengthening of the family of Freemasonry, and helping one brother to return to Lodge meetings after an absence of 38 years. Rob has also undertaken the duties of Building Manager on behalf of the Scunthorpe Masonic Building Management Board.
