Light Blues Brothers launch into Deepings raft race for the second time

There’s only one place Freemasonry and The Blues Brothers could possible come together – and that’s the Deepings Raft Race!
Picking up on this year’s theme of Marvellous Musicals Lincolnshire Freemasons Dave Shaw, Corey Cuthbert and Richard Reedman are taking to the water to compete in the event for the second successive year. They’re flying the flag for Freemasonry as members of the Lincolnshire Rough Ashlars, hundreds of less experienced Freemasons who’ll be the organisation’s future.
For this year’s event on August 2nd the intrepid trio have given the raft a lick of new paint and a not-so-secret weapon – a rudder!
Corey said: “Anyone available to cheer us on our daring venture and share the motivation would be appreciated! As the Blues Brothers sing in the film, ‘everybody needs somebody’.” The Deeping St James masonic centre will be open for refreshments and a place to sit, where members of St Pega and St Guthlac Lodges will be there and catch up amongst friends. The Deepings Raft Race is one of the highlights of the summer in the Deepings. Held every year on the first Sunday of August, the event has brought the community together on the River Welland since the 1960s. Teams build their own rafts and take to the water in themed races, cheered on by crowds along the riverbank. With plenty of fun, creativity, and friendly competition, the Deepings Raft Race is a fantastic day out.
