Through the summer Freemasons in Horncastle continued their blend of fun and fundraising with two events that help to make sure members are getting the best from their lives and they can support other members of the community to do the same.
For the first, members of Round Table and Olive Union Lodges came together to run a charity fishing match and hog roast at the lovely Tetford Country Cottages and Fishing Lakes courtesy of Ray and Marie Whitley. The weather was superb and the fishing was enjoyed by 30 anglers. The hog roast started at 6 and was attended by more than 150 people, who enjoyed the wonderful setting and weather with good food, wine and beer. The festivities went on into the night with a charity auction raising a £1,000, bringing the total amount raised £4,200 which will be given to the Alzheimer’s Society.
A few weeks later 80 people attended the Round Table Lodge’s annual whisky night. Now in its third year, and organised by Aaron Masters and Micheal Murray, the event was a huge success. Five whiskies were available for tasting with Aarron acting as guide, Once the tasting was complete the whisky bar was opened with over 80 whiskies available to try. The evening raised £1,800 which will be split between LIVES and the Freemasons’ charity the MCF, which donates to charities all over the UK including about £50,000 every day to organisation that have no connection to Freemasonry (other than being given financial support).
