Up to 150 hot lunches a week are being cooked and distributed to service users of The Forge Project in Scunthorpe thanks in part to a £1,000 donation from the Freemasons’ charity the MCF.

The money was allocated from the Covid 19 fund, with food cooked in the Project’s kitchen and taken out by volunteers including Paul Vollans of Crowle-based Vermuyden Lodge. He said: “Although we are in lockdown, we are managing to deliver between 25 and 30 hot meals to service users every weekday, as well as supplying snacks for the weekend.”
Paul’s the volunteer driver most days, taking piping hot food to a number of locations around town where accommodation has been found for service users who would otherwise be rough sleepers. “I’m currently acting as driver most days, and helping the staff support the service users during this difficult time,” he said.
The meals are prepared by the Forge’s resident chef Janine Place, who worked at a number of well-known restaurants in the area before joining The Forge. “We were lucky to get her,” added Paul. The Forge Project Day Centre opened in Scunthorpe in 1996, and offers food and support services to North Lincolnshire’s homeless and those at risk of homelessness or otherwise vulnerable.
