Freemasons from three Provinces have come together to help the residents of a York care home by providing money to buy new marquees and furniture to go in them.
The purchase was made for the Association of Friends of Connaught Court, a care home run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. The three Provinces supporting the care home are Lincolnshire, Yorkshire West Riding, and Yorkshire North and East Riding, all of whom contributed £4,000 towards the £12,000 needed to make the purchase possible.
Bruce Lewis, Chairman of the Friends of Connaught Court, said: “We had quite a cornucopia of Provincial Grand Masters as well as the Secretary of Yorkshire N&E Mark, who re seen here in front of one of the marquees. They’ve been bought as part of a project to provide additional outside facilities for the residents. Should summer ever arrive the new marquees, tables and chairs will add to the enjoyment of residents and their families alike.”
The Friends staged their annual Summer Fayre at the weekend , and although last-minute parking restrictions impacted attendance, a good time was still had by all. Bruce added: “More than £4,500 was raised at the stalls, with donations from lodges still coming in.”
