A walk over the Humber Bridge and back has meant a quartet of Brigg Freemasons have achieved their self-imposed challenge to walk two million steps in January in aid of two charities.
Mark Ramm, Chris Smith, Richard Winning, and David Atkinson of Glanford Vale Lodge have raised £3,058 to split between Prostate Cancer UK and the Lincolnshire Freemasons’ 2025 Festival, a five-year campaign to raise £2.25m.
To achieve the target each of them has had to clock up a little over a whopping 16,000 steps every day throughout the month.
And now they’re inviting other Lodges to take up the same challenge. They intend to add their names to the back of the banner they’re seen with in the picture, and send it around other Lodges, of which the Lincolnshire Province has 76, as a ‘travelling banner’ to encourage others in fundraising and to deliver the health benefits of walking.
Their walks have the support of many others, including for this one Lincolnshire’s Provincial Grand Master Dave Wheeler, seen in the back of the picture after the Bridge crossing.
Dave Atkinson said: “And we’re done, literally. Well done everyone who joined us this morning, but it’s now time for a pint or two. We’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s donated, taken part or just read the posts and pondered on what we have achieved.”
