Freemasons of Grimsby’s Lord Heneage Lodge have been taken to the cutting edge of the life-saving work done in support of the NHS and the Air Ambulance by volunteers of the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service.
And the Freemasons were pleased to pass on £500 to help sustain the service – about which the term ‘blood bikers’ tells only part of the story.
At a presentation by the LEBBS, members were told that as well as transporting blood the volunteer bikers – including some Freemasons themselves – ride thousands of miles to deliver plasma, emergency breast milk, patient notes, laboratory samples and many more items, at all hours of the day and night and in all weathers.
The money was handed over by Andy Downes, who acted as Master for the evening and is the Lodge’s Treasurer.
Andy said: “The Brethren of Lord Heneage Lodge extend their sincere thanks and admiration to the volunteers of the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service for their tireless dedication and service to the community.”
