A steady stream of visitors took the opportunity to visit the home of Market Rasen’s Freemasons during an open day at the lodge building in Jameson Bridge Street.
Their interest made the day worthwhile, said Nathan Barnes, one of the organisers. “It went well, and we’d certainly consider doing it again,” he said, admitting to a little nervousness in the week before Saturday’s event. “But in the end we needn’t have worried. People were genuinely interested, and some discovered things about their own family history. There were people waiting outside as soon as we opened the doors, which was a very pleasant surprise.
”Some people have left their contact details with a view to learning more about us in the weeks ahead, and we shall invite them and their families to our social events to let them meet us in a relaxed social setting.”
Lincolnshire’s Provincial Grand Master attended, as did members from other Lodges elsewhere in the Province. “It was good to see them and receive their support,” added Nathan.
Visitors were able to tour the building, a former Methodist Chapel, see the Lodge room and regalia, and learn more about Freemasonry in general and Bayons Lodge – the only one meeting at Market Rasen – in particular.
