A dip in the temperature promised by the weather forecasters is sure to be welcomed by a group of cycling Freemasons who’ve left Cleethorpes this morning to ride all the way across the country to Hoylake to raise funds for charities including Lincolnshire’s 2025 Festival, which has so far gathered more than £2m for worthy causes.
The ride will see stops at a number of Masonic hall across the route, including overnight stays. It involves a group from Lincolnshire and Cheshire, who are undertaking the ride together. The Lincolnshire riders are Phil Aitken, Geoff Tuckett, Tony Marston and Chris Fletcher. They’re all Mark Masons, a group within the Freemason community, and are riding as part of an event created by their counterparts in Cheshire.
The route is:
Day 1 Cleethorpes, Market Rasen, Lincoln, Newark – 62 miles
Day 2 Newark, West Bridgford, Long Eaton, Derby – 54 miles
Day 3 Derby, Kidsgrove, Nantwich – 50 miles
Day 4 Nantwich, Shotton, Hoylake RNLI – 50 miles.
Said Phil: “The riders have paid an entry fee to cover insurance, a support vehicle, and the cost of accommodation.”
Lincoln already: The cyclist were greeted by Lincolnshire’s top Freemason Dave Wheeler when they got to Lincoln.
