More than £4,000 has been raised for charity Brain Tumour Research through the efforts of 140 anglers taking part in a Freemasons fishing match and hog roast at Telford Country Cottages.
Organisers wanted to raise funds to help pay for experimental treatment not available in the UK in an attempt to beat an otherwise inoperable brain tumour suffered by Jasmine, granddaughter of Freemason David Freeman.
David said: “Don Osbourne and Bro Ray Whitely from the Round Table Lodge put together a small team of their wives Tina and Marie, along with Charlie Storr, his wife Sue, Gary Hurst and myself to raise funds for treatment.
“Sadly Jasmine passed away in January, but Ray and Don asked if the event could still take place in her memory, with money raised donated to a charity in her name. That’s why we chose Brain Tumor Research, who helped Jasmine.”
On the day each fishing peg had been sponsored either by local masons who couldn’t attend or local companies, all of which was co-ordinated by Don Osbourne. Ray, Marie, Charlie, and Sue organised the food and bar for the evening and worked hard on obtaining items for a raffle.
David added: “I would like to thank Don, Tina, Marie, Ray, Charlie, Sue, and Gary who all worked incredibly hard to make this event such a fantastic success.”
