Freemasons’ caravan club invites new members in year of its 50th anniversary

Keen caravan owners and motorhome users can make the most of their ‘traveling homes’ by joining the Lincolnshire Masonic Caravan Club, which is 50 years old this year.

The Club was founded by a group of Lincolnshire Freemasons and their families with a common interest in caravanning and a quest for family fun. Says Secretary Roy Ford: “Membership has fluctuated over the years but currently sits around 35 active members from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and surrounding areas.

“In the past the rallies would be held on the smaller caravan sites with limited facilities (when porta-potties were essential), but that’s all changed. Today’s caravan parks are in the main modern, well-serviced locations matching our quality modern caravans with all the facilities required for modern living.

“The club normally meets six times a year plus an AGM, normally in late September to discuss and agree rally venue for the following year.

“Caravanning has changed in recent years with ‘small farmers fields’ with basic facilities being replaced by modern commercial sites with shower blocks, onsite shops and high quality restaurants and entertainment.

The club brings together like-minded people to share rallies at all kinds of sites, incasing unlicensed ones, for which it holds an exemption certificate issued by Natural England.

Membership is open to any Freemason in good standing belonging to a constitution recognised by the Grand Lodge of England, together with any widow or bereaved partner of a Freemason.

Membership costs a mere £10 per family a year, but if you don’t want to dip your toe that far into the water, how about a taster weekend? And if that wasn’t bargain enough, paying the £10 fee cbrings with it you full membership of the Masonic Caravan Club of England and Wales.

The Club recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, and the pictures below show what a good time was had. PGM Dave Wheeler and his wife Liz had a great time at the celebration lunch. Afterwards he wrote: “I write to thank you, the Chairman and all of the members of the LMCC for the generous hospitality and warm welcome that Liz and I received at the 50th anniversary lunch yesterday. From the moment we arrived we were met by wonderful hospitality and friendship. To be able to share in such a pleasant lunch, combined with it being the 50th anniversary celebration, was a very special occasion and I pass my congratulations to all involved in the hard work necessary to make everything go so well.

“May I also thank the LMCC for the generous gifts the beautiful flowers for Liz and the coasters which are both already being used. I really enjoyed looking through the rallies and photo history too, there are a lot of happy memories there over the past 50 years.

“Liz and I both thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon in such excellent surroundings with a very tasty and substantial lunch, great company and lovely conversation. It was such a happy gathering and, as was said several times, the relaxing atmosphere was more then just freemasons and their families getting together, there was a real bond of friendship amongst your members which was very special. I hope this continues for many years to come.
