Mike Craggs and his wife Jill, above, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary across the road from where it had all begun for them exactly sixty years earlier.
On Sunday September 20th they hosted family and friends at an afternoon of celebration and memories at St Lawrence’s Church Hall in Scunthorpe across the road from the church in which they had been married.
Mike, a member of both the Lodge and Chapter of St. John at Scunthorpe, said: “We were married on a Tuesday at St. Lawrence’s Church as Jill’s father and a lot of the guests were in business, so a Saturday was not an option. After a honeymoon in Cornwall, we started married life in Cardiff as I was training at theological college there. It was a very happy time for us both as we lived in the former housekeeper’s apartment in the Bishop’s house, so we were on first-name terms!”
After a varied ministry around the country, with more than 20 years in Corby in Northamptonshire, Mike and Jill returned to Lincolnshire to retire to Scotter near Scunthorpe in 2008.
