Retirement for chums John Leary and Paul Champion caused them to lose touch with each other – but Lincolnshire Freemasonry’s New Masons Morning has brought them back together.
Unbeknown to each other, both became Freemasons last April; John at Apollo in Cleethorpes; Paul at Smyth in Grimsby. Both attended the New Masons Morning to meet the Executive at Sleaford Masonic Hall.
Said Provincial Mentor Jason Fitzgerald: “Get this; John and Paul knew each other through business, and had been friends for decades, but had lost contact a few years ago when they both retired. “They bumped into each other outside at the Sleaford Masonic Centre, neither knowing that they were Freemasons, nor that they had joined Freemasonry at the same time. They were thrilled to be in each other’s company, but this time as Brothers, a friendship reignited through Freemasonry.”
On the morning of the event John was a fellow craft, a step Paul was due to take at his Lodge’s next meeting – and that’s something John won’t be going to miss! Both are enjoying their Freemasonry and are already planning lodge visits together. They are seen in our picture with PGM Dave Wheeler.
