PGM Dave Wheeler sprang a surprise on members of Lindis Lodge when he turned up unannounced to bring back a piece of Lodge history.
And it was a double whammy because he had a part of Franklin Lodge’s history with him too, and was able to return both to their proper homes on the same night.
Dave takes up the story: “After members had recovered from the initial shock of me demanding admission to the Lodge, I was able to reveal the reason behind it.
“At a recent visit to the Lodge of Merit in Stamford David Burton, Past APGM from Northants and Hunts, presented me with a Lindis Lodge founder’s jewel dated 1925. It had been given to David by W. Bro George Martin, who found it in his Lodge items, having had an uncle who was associated with a Lincolnshire Lodge. The jewel originally belonged to William Steel, a founder of Lindis Lodge.
“George, who’s 91 and has just received his 60-year certificate, then discovered a 1909 Franklin Lodge Past Masters jewel also issued to William Steel – the first Asst Secretary of Franklin Lodge. As Lindis Lodge is celebrating its Centenary, it seemed appropriate to visit to present the jewel back to the Lodge. Fortunately, the Master of Franklin Lodge was there too, so I was able to return both jewels on the same night to their respective homes.”
