Even the warmth of the Lincolnshire welcome for UGLE’s newest specialist interest lodge wasn’t enough to thaw out a frozen pitch when the lodge came to Grimsby for a meeting and a game of rugby.
The Nomads Rugby lodge No10015, covering Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, had met at Grimsby’s Masonic Hall.
The plan had been for the 60 who attended to see a double initiation conducted by Derbyshire’s PGM Steven Varley, supported by the PGM of Nottinghamshire Philip Marshall as JW and with work on the floor by APGM’s from all three Provinces. That was to have been followed by the festive board and a visit to Grimsby RUFC to watch a match.
Lincolnshire APGM Peter Brooks, a member of the Lodge, said: “Due to the extreme cold the match scheduled between Grimsby and Ashfield rugby clubs had to be cancelled because the pitch was frozen. However, many members did make the visit to the club where we received a warm welcome. The WM presented a cheque for £200 in support of the Ladies section of Grimsby RFC.
“At the festive board a number of fines had been imposed for no real reason other than to raise funds for charity.”
