A conversation round a table in a Skegness restaurant has led to the first-ever triple initiation at the Round Table Lodge of Lincolnshire – and it included twins!
Louis and Jared Boddy and their friend Mason Bassham were the initiates at the Horncastle meeting. The trio had begun their Masonic journey by ‘cornering’ Tim Miller at a birthday celebration, giving him a good grilling about the craft.
Said Tim: “We were at a birthday celebration at an Italian restaurant in Skegness when they approached me to ask about Freemasonry. We had a long conversation, they were enthusiastic, and said they wanted to join. I was only to happy to help them. And with names like Mason and Louis (although he doesn’t pronounce it as Lewis), we must be onto a winner!”
The initiates were surprised to find Tim in the Chair to deliver the ceremony, with current master John Truss having stepped aside to make way for him. Tim added: “I was grateful to John for letting me take the Chair. It was an honour for me both to propose these three young men into Freemasonry and to conduct the ceremony of their initiation. They are our future, and I hope this evening is the start of a long and rewarding journey for them.” It certainly seems that way; the boys said they were overwhelmed by the ceremony and the welcome they’d received, with almost 90 people attending the ceremony. Their membership rekindles a family tradition; their grandfather had been a past Master of Bolingbroke Castle Lodge, which also meets at Horncastle.
Rough Ashlars representatives Mike Coleman and Richard Skells added their welcome to Tim’s, with Mike giving each of them a Rough Ashlars welcome pack and an invitation to attend any of the events and visits organised by the group. The Lodge also gave them ‘starter kit’ cases to carry with them.
The raffle raised £570. That’s being given to the Boston Sea Scouts, who’ll use the money to put on Veterans’ Breakfasts.
