A 50-year Red Cross of Constantine long service jewel presented to 98-year-old Bryan Walter Robinson is believed to be only the 11th presented in the UK, writes Divisional Recorder Mike Allen.
That was the belief of Steve Roberts, as Intendent General the head of the order in Lincolnshire, who made the presentation at Bryan’s home in Donington near Spalding.
The presentation was made on behalf of the Grand Sovereign and in the presence of Rt.Ill.Kt. John Clements – Past Intendant General, and Knights (members) from Spalding Conclave RCC: V.Ill.Kt. Barry Humphrey PGHChan – Past Deputy Intendant General , Ill. Kt. Richard Rodgers – PGStdB(C) and W.Kt. Rhett Brown – Conclave Senior General, who had travelled specially that morning from Braintree in Essex for the occasion.
Of the 11 such jewels and certificates, two are in Lincolnshire, the other having been presented to Gordon Walkerley Smith PGSGen at Thornton Abbey Conclave in October this year by the Grand Sovereign himself.
Steve went on to outline Bryan’s service to the Order, explaining that he had joined Ancaster Conclave in October 73, and become a Founder Member of both Spalding Conclave on in February 1980 and Viceroy Conclave in January 1997.
Bryan said he was proud to be recognised in this manner and would treasure both the memories of the presentation and, whenever possible, wearing the 50 year service jewel. Photos: Barry Humphrey.
