The warmth of The Five Bells in Butterwick was chosen as the best location for Freemasons of Spilsby’s Shakespeare Lodge to give £500 to five-year-old Rúben to help pay for specialist care.
The money was handed to his parents Catia and Richard who are raising funds for Rúben to receive physiotherapy, specialist equipment, hydrotherapy and other therapies to help him become more independent and to reach his full potential in life. The money was handed over by the current Lodge Master Simon Clayton.
Catia said: “The NHS is great, but it doesn’t fully support Rúben’s needs. This money will help us to continue the therapy that is helping him to walk and do all the things a little boy should be doing.”
Lodge member Gideon Hall, who proposed supporting Rúben and organised the presentation, said: “When you see the funds that we raise being put to such good use, it really is humbling. The last time I saw Rúben he was crawling. His latest therapy has enabled him to walk with his walker. Perhaps our support will help him and his family onto the next stage of independence.”
