Spilsby Freemasons have given £500 to what they describe as a really lovely, genuinely grateful group of people making a difference by helping others because they want to.
Members of Eccles Lodge have given £500 to the Spilsby Good Neighbour Scheme set up more than a decade ago to help neighbours out with all the small jobs that don’t require a professional or tradesman.
Lodge member Matt Webb said: “It was mainly the little things like changing a light bulb, collecting prescriptions or going to a doctor’s appointment. A phone line was setup so people could ring in to request help. When Covid hit despite the expectation that demand would increase, it actually dropped. (They believe because people actually realised how neighbours need help).
“As a result the group went back to the drawing board to see how they could rethink their approach so as not to waste the good work that had been done. They now meet as more of a social club, but still want to improve others’ lives, and the £500 we have donated has been given them now a greater scope on the options available. They are considering guest speakers for meetings or even the option of day trips out. Despite all the progression plan they still do continue to help out “sticking to their roots” where needed.”
The £500 presentation cheque was handed over by the Lodge’s new Master Adam Worthington accompanied by Ian St John Gordon and Matt Webb.
