Grimsby’s Freemasons are launching a unique midsummer gathering bringing together all eight of the town’s Craft Lodges, friends, family members, and any other Freemasons who’d like to take part.
The idea, sparked during the recent open day, was to combine friendship, conversation, and shared enjoyment beyond the usual Lodge setting. The Lodges will take it in turn to be the organisers and hosts, with the inaugural event on June 20th being in the hands of Pelham Pillar.
Earl of Yarborough Lodge Mentor Thomas Maliyil said: “The premise is that, during the summer recess, every year a Lodge will take the lead to organise a summer social event, which all eight lodges will support to make it a success. We shall have the lodge meeting, where we open, call off, present a talk for which spouses, partners, and friends are invited to join us the Lodge room. After the talk we’ll call on and close, then mingle, enjoy a barbecue, entertainment and go home, happy to have reconnected. Brethren are encouraged to bring spouses and friends for an engaging and sociable afternoon, and naturally we’d be pleased to welcome Freemasons from other centres.”
Pelham Pillar have organised a talk with universal appeal – the life of a Royal Protection Officer. That’ll be given by Ian Huggett, who was beside members of the Royal family on many historically-significant events, including walking behind the Princes at Princess Diana’s funeral. He is a member of the Royal Victorian Order, a specific rank within the British order of chivalry awarded as a personal gift by the reigning monarch to recognise distinguished personal service to the Crown, the Monarchy, or the Royal Household.
The dress code is dark lounge suit, craft or black tie, white gloves. Contact Ivan Copley ivancopley@gmail.com for more details and to book.
