Seven members of Lincolnshire’s Rough Ashlars Light Blues Club visited – appropriately enough – Ashlar Lodge in Lincoln to watch Darren Sewell initiate his son Callum in a seamless and smooth ceremony.
Callum is a former RAF serviceman, but quit the forces to pursue another career path. Darren said: “He suggested he might like to be an electrician like me, but I talked him out of that, and he secured a health and safety qualification and currently works for on a contract for a major construction company in Derby.”
Darren had spoken to Callum about Freemasonry in the past, but the demands of Callum’s service life made joining impractical. Added Darren: “Then out of the blue he asked me when I would come out of the chair. I told him and he said it would be good to join whilst I was still Master. I had the form filled in within half an hour, and here we are.”
He said father and son had previously bonded over skiing, but now would be able to do so with Freemasonry too. On behalf of the Rough Ashlars Ryan Dolby gave Callum a pin badge and tie to welcome him as part of the club.
The main picture shows Callum and his dad with visiting members of the Rough Ashlars, which also includes Ashlar Lodge wardens Damien Footsoy and Rob Birch, both themselves members of the Ashlars. Every Lincolnshire Freemason who wears a light blue apron (as well as EAs and FCs) is automatically a member of the Ashlars, which exists to help brethren get the most from their Freemasonry.
