February’s first coffee morning at our Scunthorpe centre drew the largest attendance yet, with more than forty people packing into the dining room at Normanby Road – as one member remarked: “That’s more than came to the Lodge meeting last evening.”
Amongst the group were a number of members of the ‘target audience’; brethren no longer able to attend Lodge meetings in the evenings for a number of reasons.
The room was full of chatter, as can be seen in our video here. IMG_6230
Organiser Rob Lang, the Almoner of St Lawrence Lodge, said he had been encouraged by the response to the initiative. “When we started we really didn’t how how well it would take off, if it would take off at all. But we had faith, and that fait was rewarded by ever-increasing turnouts. One member even re-arranged a medical appointment from morning to afternoon so he could be with us.”
Rob and those attending the events are grateful to the Petitions Committee at Province for funding the initiative, the Scunthorpe Masonic Building Management Board for supporting it, and caterers Debs and Shelley for the sales, scones, and savouries they provide for every event, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
Also present was Charles Jackson, the Provincial Almoner, who said the Scunthorpe initiative had sparked interest from other centres, and discussions were in progress to see what support they could be given by the Province and the Petitions Committee.
