Making a donation of £500 to the RNLI team at Cleethorpes, Free Wheelers Motorcycle Lodge Charity Steward Dean Harlow discovered the remarkable story of helmsman ‘Buster’, who’s been with the organisation since he was 12.
Dean said: “Buster told me he was at sea when he ditched school aged 12. He has spent 25 years as volunteer, and is now one of the helmsmen. Not only that, he’s a cancer survivor who still pulls on his immersion suit to aid others! It was a privilege to present a cheque for £500 to an organisation that shows so much commitment to saving others.”
Dean said he’d had a great morning seeing the work done by the RNLI team at Cleethorpes. He added: “Our donation of £500 will go towards helping them continue what they do. They get called on at least once a week, tasked with jobs ranging from rescuing those cut off by the tide, stuck in the mud, or recovering those who unfortunately don’t survive.”
The £500 came from Lincolnshire Freemasons’ New Provincial Benevolent Fund, which every year gives £500 to each of the Province’s 75 Lodges to pass on to the good cause of their choice.
