Confronted by an inability to get to Hull for regular visits to a support group meeting for those bereaved by suicide, two Scunthorpe women decided to establish a similar group in their own town.
Nina Shrimpton and her daughter-in-law Emma wanted to help families in a similar position to theirs, and established their own branch of SOBS – Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide – seven years ago.
Wirth Emma leading the fundraising and Nina and a friend providing support and counselling with help from the organisation’s national HQ, they have managed to raise £40,000 for a holiday park caravan to use for respire care for bereaved families, which costs £8,000 a year to maintain.
Their latest donation, of £100, was handed over by Scunthorpe’s St Lawrence Lodge treasurer W Bro Nick Probert, and will be added to the funds raised from a ball, comedy nights, and golf days, alongside other donations.
